Taichung, Taiwan 2013 -Part 2

The third day (9 Dec) we went to a local Taiwan pasar (meaning market in Malay). :D It was not so crowded as we went on a weekday, but still it was bustling with aunties out grocery shopping and shrieking hawkers. Not much a difference from our typical Malaysian pasar, apart from the fact that the market was way cleaner than our pasar back home. :/

While we were stopping at some random stalls to check some stuff out, some of the hawkers and aunties looked at me with a confused expression and then proceeded to ask me: "Ei, 你今天怎么不用上学啊?" Which means "Ei, why aren't you in skul today?" LOL. Malaysia and Taiwan have different skul systems and therefore their holidays are different too. We in Malaysia have one and a half month off in the end of the year which is about mid November to the end of December. Skul starts on the beginning of January the following year, plus we have two weeks' holidays around the middle of the year and LOADS of random public holidays scattered along the whole year. On the other hand Taiwan follows the skul system of the US and UK and therefore have two or three months' summer holidays around July until September. They have only two or three days' holidays around the whole year. Thus so the aunties and hawkers mistake me as a Taiwanese and thought I was skipping skul. Haha. xDD
Outside the storefront selling children's clothes
The tiny storefront selling children's clothes :)
After pausing at this children's clothes store, we split up and headed two ways: my Mom, grandmother and my grandmother's sister went one way to the clothes boutique which apparently is owned by my grandmother's sister's friend. Or someone-or-other. I'm not sure ._.

While on the other hand, my Dad, my two brothers and I headed the other way to find a drinks store because my brother (let's just call him "Koko". It means "big brother" and even though I'm bigger than him, all of my family members called him that cuz my youngest brother calls him that ._. Imagine my 60 yr old grandma call him "big brother". LOL. Plain weird. Haha. Anyways back to the topic cuz I'm getting sick of writing a whole load of crap in brackets. xD) started wailing that he was thirsty. And I do mean "wailing". Huge crybaby. >:D

Mm hmm. The market was a pretty huge one, we had only covered, like, half of it or something. There was still the other end on the other side of the post office :O It was pretty fun to go shopping there, as all the clothes are trendy yet cheap! :) The quality is pretty good too! I've washed all the clothes I've bought there, and none of them seems to have signs of flaking or losing colors! :DD

We left the market at about lunch time and headed to 五权西四街 (Wuquan West 4th Street), where loads of the prettiest and beautifully themed restaurants are. It's a few streets down from where the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (国立台湾美术馆) is, so you can easily walk over to the museum after lunch! :) As the Chinese saying goes: 饭后百步走,活到九十九 Which means walking 100 steps after a meal makes you live until 99 yrs old xP Idk if it's true, but it's surely worth a try! :D Though come to think of it, a walk from 五权西四街to the Museum might be way longer than 100 steps.

We saw two of the most famous restaurants that were highly recommended by a lot of bloggers online, 安徒生童话乡村厨 (Andersen Stories) and 小意大利 (Little Italy) :) I snapped a pic of the 安徒生童话乡村厨, but sadly did not manage to take a photo of 小意大利 as it was renovating :(
Andersen Stories :)
A random restaurant ._.
We finally decided to have lunch at Andersen Stories :D It was very fairytale-ish and pretty :))
That's the front door over there :P
The bar :D Duckies!!
The bar :D Why are there duckies everywhere? ._. LOL.
Quote on wall: 如果你是一颗天鹅蛋,那么即使出生在养鸭场,也无所谓
Meaning: If you're a swan's egg, then it won't be a problem even if you're born in a duck farm
Yes about the faces. It's to protect the people in the pic :D In a cute way xD
The upstairs landing. Little Mermaid! :P
The toilet at the far back. Are those dwarfs PEEPING?! OMFG xDD
Taken from across the toilets. And yeah, that's my brother over there (You recall? "Koko") snapping pics with my Dad's camera. He SPECIFICALLY told me not to put cutesy cartoons over his face, so I put in Spiderman! :D
Each table has a stuffed animal! LOL. So cute xD Yes the pink tiger is squashed ._.
Random table
Another random table! I love these tables. I would've snapped pics of 'em all but there were other customers seated :O Quote on wall: 信仰比知识更令人感到快乐 Meaning: Religion makes people happier than knowledge
Decorations on wall.
The main course page of the menu.
Kiddie section!! :DD
Quote on wall: 整个世界就像是我的家乡 Meaning: The whole world is just like my hometown
FOOD!! Om nom nom... Looks delicious huh? *drooling*
Yeah about the food...We actually ordered loads! But I didn't get to take pics of all of 'em as everyone was starving.. (´ q ` ” ) But if you're dining at Andersen's, I fully recommend the baked cheese delicacies (焗烤)! They are absolutely SCRUMPTIOUS! True story. I was the only one who ordered spaghetti and to be frank, it was just okay. But since mine took a whole lot longer to arrive, I nibbled on some of my grandma's baked cheese chicken wings. Well to sum it up, I no longer felt hungry for my spaghetti when it finally arrived. Instead I ate like half of my grandma's order! :P Nyum nyumz.
View of Wuquan West 4th Street. And yes that's Andersen's over there.

#PS, oh and if you're wondering, the photos are taken by an Apple iPad Mini, not a professional camera.

Taichung, Taiwan 2013 -Part 1

Hi! :) I know I've promised a travel update on all the details of my trip but I've been very lazy recently... Sorry for the delay! <(_  _)>

So we arrived safely at the Taichung Ching-Chuan-Kang Airport (清泉岗机场) on the evening of the 7th of December. It took around 7 hours, as we flew directly to Hong Kong to transit to Taiwan. It would take around 4 hours if flying directly to Taiwan. It was an awesome flight cuz the plane had TVs :D Yayyyy! xDD Cathay Pacific Airlines RULE! :) ^_^

It was about nighttime when we arrived (Yeah I forgot the time ._. I think it's 9pm?) We stopped by our relatives' house to pick up on a few of our stuff. Food, to be exact. FOOD! *.* My all time favs are 洪瑞珍饼家三明治. Their sandwiches taste like heaven. And yes I'm not exaggerating.
I did not take this pic. Copyrights reserve! xD (Though I have no idea what it means) But yeah anyways, the ones I had looked exactly like this.
We booked into our hotel, 上豪大饭店. It was okay, I guess. Full of antique and old-people stuff. Bleah. But yeah, there's antique everywhere. There's even a set of antique wooden chairs in the lobby on the ground floor. Apparently it costs millions. My parents sniffed those out. They have a knack of sniffing out priceless antique crap. ._.

The next day (8 Dec) we went shopping at Chung-Yo(中友百货). It has, like, 15 floors and is a TOTAL shopping paradise! 。◕‿◕。 A MUST GO for shopaholics if you're stopping by Taichung!! There are loads of different departments, like the Japanese Teens Department (日系少女服饰), the Office Lady Department (上班族女装), Imported Clothing Department (进口服装) and a whole department dedicated to all the latest fashion trends (潮流名品)! :))

[to be continued..]

#PS, if you're wondering about the sudden lack of my random emoticons, I've grown out of them; I've been reading through my last few posts, and the emoticons are SO zodeng!! Oh yeah. And that means annoying and blocking. :P

So Freaking Malaysian! :P

Hi guys! :) I feel very satisfied with my last post,, My Random Internet Acronyms xD. :P ー( ´ ▽ ` )ノ LOL. Then suddenly I scrolled through it and found LOTS of typical Malaysian grammar & language in the conversation xDD (๑>ᴗ<๑) So I decided I'd come up agn with a whole list of "So Freaking Malaysian" language! ;P ✖‿✖

So freaking Malaysian! :D ┌(˘⌣˘)ʃ

Oh yes. Singapore's language is much like Malaysia's too ._. I guess that makes it "So Freaking Malaysian & Singaporean?" O_O ⊙▽⊙

#PS: Oh yes. "Agn" is abbreviation for "again" :)

Just in case you missed that post I've written yesterday,, here's the conversation in it:

-in the car-
A: Hey bro, what u wanna get for lunch?
B: Idk leh. Anything u want lah.
A: Walao. What idk!? Think of something lah OMFG. Faster leh green light liao.
B: WTF. I say suibian already lor. Green light green light lah. Go past liao can U-turn what.
A: 'kay lah 'kay lah. McD's can?
B: Yalah McD's lah. Eh dude, u heard abt C and D or not? They juz *yadda yadda blah blah blah yak yak* lor.
A: Yes ah? Fuiyoh. When u heard wan?
B: Juz now nia. E msged me few min ago nia.
A: Eh bro. Y u keep using abbreviations for like everything wan ah? So freaking annoying u know.
B: What damn abbreviation? This is short form lah! Short form for everything, talk faster mah. Like u meh, slow coach. We busy ppl no slack around like u wan lah.
A: What slow coach? Slow my foot. Unlike u ah, everyday SMS here, WeChat there, Facebook here, Twitter there, gossip gossip like auntie!
B: Who auntie?! @#$%&*$^(^%@

Okayy,, so I'm juz gonna highlight every single freaking Malaysian in the dialogue and explain :) ∩( ・ω・)∩
  1. "what u wanna": Yes. Typical Malaysian broken English ╮(╯▽╰)╭ Don't blame us; we are a multilingual country and the upsaid phrase is translated directly from Bahasa Malaysia: "Apa awak mau" (⌒▽⌒)
  2. "Leh": It doesn't have a specific meaning. Juz a suffix to emphasize on the word/sentence before it. EG: I didn't take it leh!/You went the wrong way leh!
  3. "Lah: Also doesn't have specific meaning. Used mostly to emphasize the word/sentence before it and also to express exclamation. EG: I don't understand what are you talking about lah!/So late liao, go home lah! (〜 ̄▽ ̄)〜
  4. "Walao": Oh haha. A VERY typical Malaysian slang. It is generally used to express shock/surprise/anger or basically anything. ╮(╯3╰)╭ Walao. Really lah! I'm not bluffing 'kay. EG: Walao, damn power lah you!/Walao, that building so freaking tall! ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ
  5. "Liao": It is the meaning of "already" in Chinese. EG: I bath liao. You haven't?/You receive the pay cheque liao? (︶ω︶)
  6. "Suibian": It is Chinese and can be interpreted as "casual(ly)" "simply" "without thought" or even "random(ly)". Synonym to "cincai". EG: What should I wear? Suibian lah!/Suibian do the project lah! ⊙▽⊙
  7. "Lor": Similar to "duh" but is usually put at the end of a sentence. If you're searching for its meaning in Cantonese,, it means "stink" but is more often used as "stupid". EG: Where is he? At home lor!/(Cantonese) He is so lor; he messed up and got fired! (。・ω・。)
  8. "*insert the same thing twice here* lah!": It is to emphasize that the speaker feels nothing of importance about the item/topic. EG: Raining raining lah! What's the big deal?
  9. "What": Actually,, I have no idea what the "what" means at all ._. ( ̄□ ̄;)!! I think it is to emphasize a solution to something. :P EG: Cheer up lah. You can get a new computer what. (⊙…⊙ )
  10. "Yalah": Same meaning as "okay lah". It is also used to agree to someone's suggestion or point. EG: Yalah yalah, go lah!/Yalah, James is right; it's a brilliant idea!
  11. "Eh": Used to address someone. Same meaning as "Oi". Not to be confused with "ei" as it means "to express sudden surprise". EG: Eh! That dude in the black blazer over there!/Eh, did you hear about the new iPhone 5S? (・◇・)
  12. "Or not": Usually used to ask a question or to ask for one's opinion. EG: You got your results already or not?/That shirt cool or not?
  13. "Ah": Can be used to ask a question back to its asker or to express exclamation/shock/fright. EG: You sure about it ah?/Ah, I knew it!
  14. "Fuiyoh": Same meaning as "Whoo!". A term of excitement. Synonym to "wuiyo/wuiyoh". EG: OMG have you heard? They're getting married! Wow really? Fuiyoh! (^ _ ^)/
  15. "Wan": Has no meaning. A suffix put at the end of a sentence. Also spelled as "one" but not to be confused with the original meaning of "one" which is "a possesion of someone". EG: Walao. Huge news, why you never told me wan! =3= ヽ( ̄д ̄;)ノ
  16. "Nia": Hokkien meaning "only" or "just". EG: It happened juz now nia./They got engaged yesterday nia.
  17. "Mah": To explain about a topic/to defend oneself. EG: I wanted to see how tall I am mah!
  18. "Meh": To ask a question. EG: I got fall asleep meh? :)
Well,, that's all on my list :D. But there are LOTS more out there. I'll just have to add it when I finally think of them :))

XOXO,
Lyn :)
